The Cinvestav was created in 1961 by presidential decree, as a decentralized public agency with legal personality and its own patrimony. Its founding director, Ph.D. Arturo Rosenblueth, prompted an academic exigency which has resulted in the success of the institution. The Institution has twenty-eight research departments distributed in nine campuses around the country.

Its founding director, Ph.D. Arturo Rosenblueth, prompted an academic exigency which has resulted in the success of the institution.

The Institution has twenty-eight research departments distributed in nine campuses around the country.

In the Cinvestav there are carried out 583 researches divided in the different departments as shown in the table below:

 

The 99.3% of the Cinvestav researchers have a Ph.D. degree and the 92% are members of The National Researchers System (SNI).
