Job Title: COE

R&D

Ceramics

Reports to (Title): Director of Process Engineering

Direct Reports: Yes

Department: Process Engineering

Primary Purpose:

Lead the Chinaware plants on the Research & development and process improvements for raw materials and ceramic materials used in Chinaware: slip, glaze plaster, resin for High pressure casting, drying and firing.

Lead direction on the central R& D laboratory and functional and technical support on the 90% FFY project for material / slip stability initiatives

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. This COE will be specially focused on complex technical issues (related to materials / slip and subsequent processes to improving process stability and yields) and share best practices and training on ceramics science with the manufacturing optimization teams.
  2. Responsible for the Central laboratory development initiatives and its personnel
  3. Develop new suppliers and new materials to improve yields, costs and/or level of depletion. Improve relationship with targeted suppliers
  4. This person will also lead the process and material technical audits at the supplier and in our
  5. Chinaware plants
  6. Lead the construction of a robust failure catalog on slip making and raw materials variation. Including the chemical and physical effect and their countermeasures
  7. Develop, document and share with all ceramic laboratories in Mexico new testing techniques in conjunction with our central COE group in Japan to improve stability of the slip properties

Job Specifications: (Knowledge/Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities required for competent performance in the job)

  1. College degree on Ceramics Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Geology: Masters and PHD on Materials/ chemical engineering are a major plus.
  2. Extensive experience (10 years plus) in ceramic raw materials control and optimization for the Chinaware industry.
  3. Demonstrated 5-10 experience on new material / process development in a controlled laboratory Environment
  4. Strong statistical background – six sigma, green belt training is a plus
  5. Experience on problem solving tools such as: 5 Why’s, kaizen, Ishikawa, PFMEA,
  6. Experience in working in a team environment focused on meeting specific goals and project timeline
  7. Strong planning/Organization & Time Management skills
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills – Spanish and English required
  9. Able to use Minitab, Microsoft project and Microsoft Office
  10. The position will be based in Ecatepec, Estado de México
